How to measure your wrist for a watch

Wrap a flexible tape around the place where you normally wear your watch. Keep it snug without pressing into your skin. Alternatively, wrap a strip of paper around your wrist, mark the overlap, and measure the length with a ruler. Enter that measurement above.

Case diameter is only part of the fit

Case diameter describes the width of the watch case, usually excluding the crown. Lug-to-lug describes its length along your arm. Two watches with the same diameter can feel different because their lugs, thickness and bracelets differ.

For a useful fit check, compare the watch's lug-to-lug length with the flat top width of your wrist. Check that the lugs and rigid end links sit comfortably within your wrist edges. If possible, try the watch on.

How does this watch size calculator work?

It uses a simple editorial estimate: a balanced case diameter starts at roughly 23.5% of wrist circumference, rounded to the nearest millimetre. Classic and bold preferences shift that starting point by 2 mm. The displayed range extends 2 mm on either side. This is a shopping guide, not an industry sizing standard, and it is intended for wrist circumferences from 13 to 23 cm.

What size watch should I try on a 17 cm wrist?

With the balanced setting, this tool suggests starting around 40 mm, with a 38–42 mm range to explore. Check lug-to-lug length and wrist width too: a short-lug watch may sit differently from a long-lug watch of the same diameter.

Does a bigger case mean the watch will be too large?

Not necessarily. Lug length and curvature, dial design, thickness and bracelet construction also affect how a watch wears. Your preferred look matters, so treat the size range as guidance rather than a strict limit.

Can this calculate my replacement strap width?

No. Replacement strap width must match the distance between your watch's lugs. Check the watch specifications or measure that gap in millimetres. Wrist circumference helps with strap length, not strap width.
